Why do I need maternity/nursing Bras?
Your body goes through quite a few changes during pregnancy. Most moms find that one of these changes is an increase in breast size, which means you’ll need a size larger than what you wore pre-pregnancy. Fashion bras are simply not designed to provide the comfortable support your heavier breasts will need at this time. And of course, they do not provide the convenient access to your breasts that will be important for nursing your new baby. Motherwear’s complete line of maternity/nursing bras combines both these design features into one convenient product, saving you time, effort and money - both before and after your baby is born.
When should I buy my first maternity/nursing bras?
By the 6th to the 8th month of your pregnancy, your breast size generally stabilizes and it's a good time to select your maternity/nursing bras. You can feel comfortable purchasing them when you first find that your pre-pregnancy bras no longer fit you comfortably. We do not recommend waiting until after your baby is born. You’ll find that immediately after birth, when your milk first comes in, your breasts are likely to increase an entire cup size over the size they are during pregnancy. Once your breasts have established a balanced supply of milk, you can then return to wearing your maternity/nursing bras comfortably. If you do order your bras after delivery, we suggest ordering one cup size up from the size you wear during pregnancy. These are guidelines but, of course, every woman's body is different. How many maternity/nursing bras will I need?
Motherwear recommends having at least 3-4 maternity/nursing bras, so you always have a clean, dry bra available. Select 2-3 of your favorite daytime style (perhaps in a few different colors), plus 1 or 2 of our sleep/leisure bra (our most popular item!) - perfect for sleeping, relaxing and for other times when you want or need a soft bra with less support.
How do I care for my Motherwear maternity/nursing bras?
We suggest either handwashing or using your washing machine’s delicate cycle, and hang-drying to extend the life of your bras. Either way, use only cold water and regular detergent; no bleach, no additives.
